LocalTech Solutions from India: The Biosanitizer and The Last Straw!

I would like to recommend my following concept notes for helping reduce poverty, sustainable economic development at rural level and also in impacting urban environs positively.

Indian scientists have developed without millions of $ funding support, the following low cost technologies which can make a big impact on climate change for the better:

(A) Green paper with up to 90% of the pulp derived from cereal straws like rice and wheat.
That means only 10% of long fiber derived from wood is needed. The paper is of best quality and we are talking about Map Litho copier grade, which has huge demand with a growing appetite both in India and abroad. Validated in pilot plant and approved by experts from Finland, USA and China. Technology is available with Krofta Engineering Ltd, New Delhi.

(B) Alternatively we can extract bio ethanol out of the cereal straws.
A pilot plant at Punjab University has already validated the technology claim with an yield recorded at 30%, ie 300 litres fuel grade 200proof ethanol extracted from 1 metric ton of cereal straws biomass as the input feedstock. If you are following technology developments, worldwide on cellulosic ethanol, you would agree that this yield is among the highest recorded in cellulosic ethanol category.

68 billion tons of cereal straws are available annually from the major two crops of rice and wheat alone from the two seasons Khariff and Rabi as post harvest residues, mostly under-utilized in India.(Source: Biomass Resource Atlas Of India: 2004 primary & secondary survey done in 2004 by Ministry of Renewable Energy, Govt Of India). That means we can extract a lot of clean renewable energy transportation fuel and green paper without having to drive up food prices!

Feasibility reports are ready at
Krofta Engineering Ltd. World Bank in fact has appreciated the technology and recommended it to investors. Copy of the recommendation letter and experts reports are available.

How can Chevron or other petroleum company help in mobilising green capital to help kick start this fledgling effort to a new era of clean renewable energy derived from waste biomass? The first start up will be based in India as it is cheaper to do the erection and trials here. We offer a clean, green investment opportunity, which will also be competitive to the enzymatic hydrolysis being followed in USA and elsewhere. Krofta process promises lower cost of production for green paper with straw pulp and ethanol.

(C) Another technology of interest is that of Biosanitizer, developed by Dr. Uday Bhawalkar, Pune, India.

This offers a holistic approach between urban sanitation, GHG abatement and environmental remediation and makes possible an organic sustainable agriculture which uses low cost nutrients to produce food calories and nutrition.

Greenpeace Germany had recommended this article's approach in 2004-05 when I put up another version on the internet web sites. They also recommended me as one of the World Authors detailed to suggest a revamp of World Bank which has singularly failed in its development tasks to impact the poor at the bottom of the economic pyramid!

(D) An ancient Vedic sciences recycling concepts based technology of BC antiquity.
This promises low cost, low resources and low energy inputs based organic agriculture, which is truly sustainable and capable of producing food free of toxic residues, having balanced macro and micro nutrients usually possible through organic farming. Needless to add, this technology enables crops to be disease and pest attack free making GM agricultural technology redundant and pesticides obsolete. The inventor/innovator has an unlikely resume: He is majored in statistical research and was predicting stock market movements earlier.

I came to know of him when the owner of a tea estate in India posted an article about the remarkable results achieved with Keshav Krishi, which can also be called as ancient Vrikshayurveda old wine in a new packaging called as Keshav Krishi.. In one of the latest developments, he has told me that he can handle plastic wastes! He uses all manner of available wastes in farms to make formulations which work wonders as soil drench or as foliar spray in dilutions.

The latest Keshav Krishi success include Arabica Coffee plants, spices like pepper vines in the same estate located in Kodagu district of Karnatakam where other organic farming methods were given up!

Cleaning up of river systems is possible both with Biosanitizer and also Keshav Krishi. Keshav Krishi has been applied more towards reccling available wastes into farm lands. Biosanitizer has been successfully applied in STP at Nashik city and its treated effluent has cleaned up the river Godavari down stream. Krofta equipments may also find use. Example belt filter presses in sewage treatment.
