Nuts and Bios: Remo De Vico

Remo De Vico (1986), composer and sound draughtsman.

Born in Carolei graduated in literature music and show at the university ' La Sapienza ' in Rome.

He studied visual structures in free jazz and singing at the Conservatory of Cosenza, composition in electroacoustic music at the Conservatory ' Santa Cecilia ' in Rome with Giorgio Nottoli and Carmine Emanuele Cella.

He writes music for the cinema and for the theatre, with "The Tales of the Bear" by Samuele Sestieri and Olmo Amato participates in all major independent film festivals such as the Rotterdam Film Festival and the 33 Film festival in Turin.

Director of the label Studioo Laps until publication N. 52 and founder of the slaps Orchestra, ensemble with which he succeeds in improvising for 24 hours no-stop in the artistic residence Bocs-Art.

It is included in the unexplained sounds Group-the first annual report, the album in which are unpublished characters such as Steve Reich and Morton Subotnick.

In 2015 he founded the label Unique Copy with which he was awarded at the Mei of Faenza 2016 as Indie of the year.

Prolific and eclectic musician is also author of ' The Silence of Noise ' radio program dedicated to the sound experimentation.

Are you writing stories? Re-engineering the mood? Neither?!

Cerco costantemente di rimanere in una condizione compositiva, tengo sempre pronto il cervello e le orecchie alle idee, quello che era un esercizio giovanile adesso è un velo di Maya.

I am constantly looking to stay in a compositional condition, I always keep ready the brain and ears to the ideas, what was an exercise youth is now a veil of Maya.

Are you creating or utilizing sound archetypes?

Credo di identificare il concetto di archetipo sonoro con l'etnomusicologia, mentre sono abbastanza sicuro di non aver mai creato nulla che si possa definire tale. Il brano che maggiormente identifico con il concetto di archetipo sonoro è comunque un canto contenuto in Golem di Richard Teitelbaum.

I identify with the concept of archetypal sound ethnomusicology, and I'm pretty sure that he had never created anything that can be defined as such. The song that best identify with the concept of sound archetype is still a song contained in Golem Richard Teitelbaum.

Entertainment. Protest. Masturbation? Nature?

Bisogno. Un estremo e costante bisogno di dimenticare chi sono. Il miglior intrattenimento possibile dunque.

Need. An extreme and constant need to forget who they are. The best entertainment possible then.

Artificial Intelligence - are you singing like a computer?

E' il computer che suona come me, ma non del tutto. Mi sento come appeso ad un filo, questo è l'ultima traccia di umanità, sotto di me c'è il mondo digitale, l'amore digitale.

And 'the computer that sounds like me, but not quite. I feel like hanging by a thread, this is the last trace of humanity, below me is the digital world, digital love.

Can you call yourself a semiotician?

Agli inizi della mia carriera compositiva davo molta importanza al rapporto tra suono e significato. Ora dopo 17 anni mi lascio trasportare dall'orecchio e da una maggiore consapevolezza artigianale.

Early in my composing career gave much importance to the relationship between sound and meaning. Now after 17 years I get carried away by the ear and greater awareness crafts.

Do your samples come from your heart? Head? The street?

Metaphor? Analogy? Are these ideas wordsmithing mirrors there?

Amo le figure retoriche, sono alla base della scrittura e spesso l'arte compositiva si avvicina maggiormente alla pittura e alla scrittura più che all'arte del musico.

I love the figures rhetorical figures, they are the basis of writing and often the compositional art is more akin to painting and writing more than the art of the musician

Do you compose from a feeling? An image? Nature or human relationships?

Is your sound collage work more spontaneous than pre-planned?

Nascono secondo un piano ben preciso, ma ci sono pezzi del puzzle che dedico all'improvvisazione, fondamentale nella tavolozza musicale.

Born according to a precise plan, but there are pieces of the puzzle that I dedicate to the improvisation, essential in the musical palette

Is designing sound - like chasing cats?

Meditation vs noise? When are these the same thing to you?

Are there universal experiences and values in your soundscapes? If yes, please share some examples.

Cerco di fuggire dal valore universale. Non ci ho mai creduto.

I try to escape from universal value. I never believed it.
